Posted: March 30, 2011 in News

Here is the information for the playground build.

The YMCA has asked Gateway to gather 50 volunteers to staff the playground build on Friday,  April 8th.  We need volunteers for 2 shifts; 8am to 2pm, and 2pm to 8pm.  If you need to come at some other time, just let me know.

Some of the volunteers will need to bring drills and/or table saws.  If you dont have one of these tools we also need folks who can operate a shovel and rake.  We need all the help we can get.

You can sign up by replying to this post, or emailing me directly at matt@gatewaysavannah.com, or replying to the evite on facebook.

See you there!

Getting Started Again

Posted: January 20, 2011 in Uncategorized

The other day I started dreaming and praying about working on a degree in leadership.  I did some research and found a degree that is being offered by Regent University.  Its  doctoral degree in Strategic leadership.  So I asked for more information and requested a phone call.  The degree sounded really exciting.  The problem was the fact that it would require about 25 hours a week of reading, studying and writing.  With my schedule that feels overwhelming.  So this morning I made a covenant with myself.  I prepared a possible schedule that would squeeze out 25 hours for study (changing my habits quite a bit).  Part of this plan includes getting started on my blog again.  If I can follow the schedule for the next 6 months, then I will apply for admission.  If I cannot stick to this strict schedule for a long time, then the degree is a nice idea, but I am probably not willing to pay the price for it. Pray for me.

Hey Guys,I hope you are having the “Best Week Ever”.  This Sunday was a tremendous day.  The music was outstanding, the video was powerful, the sun was shinning and God sent a crowd.  This week we had 387 folks in attendance.  God is at work, and so are many of you.  I want you to know how blessed I feel to be the pastor of Gateway.  So many of you are giving so much to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and inviting, a place where people feel safe and at home.  Thanks for all you do, and are going to do to reach people with the message of God’s love and grace.  The best is yet to come! 40 DAYS OF FAITH If you haven’t already heard, starting Easter Sunday Gateway is offering the opportunity for you to be involved in a 40 Days of Faith campaign.  During the next 40 days, we pray that your faith is strengthened and that your connection with others at Gateway is deepened.  You can participate in one of two ways: 40 Days of Faith Reading Plan:  Each day for the next 40 days, you will receive an email that looks at 5 verses in the Gospel of John, and experience what it means to walk verse-by-verse in the Bible and your walk with God.  This begins the moment you sign up on the website.  To participate visit www.gatewaysavannah.com and sign up for “40 DAYS OF FAITH!”! 40 Days of Faith Small Group:  Each week for 5 weeks you will receive five readings for the week.  Each reading looks at 5 verses in the Gospel of John, and you will get to share your experiences from these readings with a small group.  To participate visit www.gatewaysavannah.com and sign up for “40 DAYS OF FAITH SMALL GROUPS”!  Do not sign up for both readings and a small group.  The small groups will begin meeting next week. Coming Up:This Sunday….Gateway Youth CARWASH!  Come get your car washed for $7.00 at the Wal-Mart in Pooler from 1-5 PM this Sunday.  The proceeds will go to helping to fund the Gateway Youth trip called “River of Life,” where the youth will be involved with helping to repair houses for needy families this summer, in Jacksonville, Florida. Gateway Youth will meet for the carwash at Wal-Mart at Pooler form 1-5 PM.  Please bring a change of clothes and come prepared to eat pizza at John and Steph’s place before heading over to the YMCA for the Sunday weekly meeting from 6 PM- 7:30 PM.   If you have any questions about Gateway Youth, please contact John McCoy (912) 414-1303/ john@gatewaysavannah.com or Stephanie McCoy (912) 414-1304/ stephanie@gatewaysavannah.com.Newcomer’s Lunch: Our next lunch will be in three weeks on April 13th.  If you are new to Gateway and are interested in learning more about our church and in getting connected to more people, let us treat you to lunch!  We will have a newcomers’ lunch on the second Sunday of each month at Lovezolla’s on Hwy 80 in downtown Pooler, following the 11:00 service.  If you’d like to have lunch with us, please let us know and we can let you know the details.  Please email Terri if you would like to attend the next lunch so that we can make sure and reserve enough tables. Gateway 101: Our next Gateway 101 will be in three weeks on April 13th from 5 to 7 at the YMCA conference room.  If you are interested in learning more about how to become a member of Gateway Church, we have a class series designed to help introduce the vision and values that we have for our church community.  The first class in this series is Gateway 101.  The purpose of this class is to clearly explain Biblical teachings about the Church, our United Methodist heritage, and give a glimpse of where Gateway is going. We want you to catch the vision and come along. Baptism Celebration:  Gateway will be having at baptism celebration on Sunday May 4th.  The service will be at 10:40 at the YMCA pool.  We invite you to come and celebrate with those who are choosing to be baptized.  If you have not been baptized and would like to talk to me about that please shoot me an email.  matt@gatewaysavannah.com Mod update:Thank you to those who already expressed interest in buying t-shirts, donuts and bookmarks in our efforts to support The March of Dimes.  The t-shirts will be $10 but xxl sizes will be additional. I hope you are having a good week.  I want to remind you that Easter Sunday is only a couple of weeks away.  I want to invite you to be praying for Gateway this Easter.  One of our core values is: Prayer: We believe that apart from Christ, we can do nothing of eternal value; therefore, everything we do will be under girded and surrounded by fervent prayer.  Would you join me in praying for three things this Easter?

-Pray for those who responded to the challenge this Sunday and will be inviting their friends, family, neighbors and coworkers this Easter.-Pray that they would have opportunities to invite, pray that they would have courage when the opportunity comes, and wisdom to choose the right words-Pray for those God to draw people to Gateway, that God would use Gateway to change hearts. This Past Sunday:This past Sunday the message centered around a challenge to invest in the people around you, and to invite them to church.  One of the remarkable statistics I share is that 80% of Americans would come to church if they were invited.  Thank you to all of you who responded to the challenged and are committing to invite 3 of there friends to Gateway for Easter Sunday.  If you were not able to make it on Sunday, let me encourage you to take the challenge.  You can respond to this email and let me know that you are in.  Also, some of you were so excited to say that you wanted to be in that you forgot to put your name on your connection card.  If you did not receive an email about this, then you may need to let me know that you are in.

Important Note:

This Sunday there will be a time change.  Be sure and set your clocks forward on Saturday night.  See you Sunday! This Week:Newcomers Lunch:  This Sunday we invite everyone that is new to Gateway to join us for the Newcomers Lunch at Lovezolla’s Pizza.  Lunch will start at 12:15.  This is an opportunity to meet some other folks who are checking out Gateway and to hear about the heartbeat of our church.Gateway 101:If you are interested in learning more about how to become a member of Gateway Church, we have a class series designed to help introduce the vision and values that we have for our church community.  The first class in this series is Gateway 101.  The purpose of this class is to clearly explain Biblical teachings about the Church, our United Methodist heritage, and give a glimpse of where Gateway is going. We want you to catch the vision and come along. Youth Group Weekly Update: We will meet this Sunday at the YMCA from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.  We are continuing the DVD series, “24/7 Experience,” as well as talking about our trip to Heifer Ranch and fundraising events.  We will be having our first monthly dodgeball night on March 14th, from 8:00 to 9:30 PM.  Please invite your friends!

I realize that many of you have questions about the Christian faith.  I do not pretend to know it all, or even have many answers, but I would be willing to discuss your questions with you thoughfully.
